In this invited address to the 2025-2026 cohort of Fellows in the International Career Advancement Program (ICAP), Arthur Jones will provide a brief introduction to issues of resilience and resistance embedded in the Spirituals created and first sung by enslaved Africans in America, and the relevance of the tradition for contemporary issues of oppression, domination, victim survival and struggle.
